Life is all about perspective. The lens through which I see the world determines my focus. If I limit my vision to only human viewpoints then I open myself up to despair. Earthly messages leave me feeling depressed and overwhelmed. But heavenly heralds point to a deeper reality. Beneath this present darkness flows a message of hope and light.
When you least expect it, this message of hope and light breaks through in surprising ways. Sometimes God in his infinite wisdom, presents this proclamation in the smallest of packages like the birth of a 5 lb. 3 oz. bundle of joy. Who can deny the existence of good in the world when looking in the eyes of a newborn? Earthly perspective shifts in a moment to the eternal.
It’s easy given the events of the last few months, to lose sight of this heavenly perspective. Thank goodness God gives us glimpses of the joy to come through beauty and simple blessings. Even though trouble assails us now, the Bible assures us of a happy ending. Someday pain and hatred will end. Cancer and aging will no longer plague humanity. All tribes and races will live together in harmony. Everything in Heaven and on the earth will be made new.
Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning or crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.
Revelation 21:3-4
I can’t help but recognize each birth as a preview of this new world to come. This serves as a sign for us. New life will overcome death once and for all. Earthly perspective passes away for the eternal. In a split second, this message of hope and light becomes our reality…forever.
