An Everyday Sort of Magic

I do believe in an everyday sort of magic–the inexplicable connection we sometimes experience with places, people, works of art, and the like; the eerie appropriateness of synchronicity; the whispered voice, the hidden presence when we think we’re alone.

Charles de Lint

There’s an everyday sort of magic only children understand where discarded cardboard boxes transform into royal castles and knights fight fire-breathing dragons. The circle of toadstools in the backyard is a mysterious shuttle into another realm while fairies dance in the garden.

In a child’s world, wonder is as ordinary as a spider web suspended in the sky…

a butterfly balancing on the breeze…

or the wet nose of a puppy.

It’s tragic how often this sense of magic is lost as we cross over into adulthood. Our inner child remains hidden under layers of worries and concerns sometimes for years. Yet, we have the opportunity to change. With God all things are possible. Rediscover child-like wonder by opening your heart to the ordinary, everyday magic right before your eyes. Then unleash your imagination and let your creativity soar for the wellbeing of your body and soul.

Always remember to leave room in your garden for fairies to dance.

At that time, the disciples came to Jesus. They asked him, “Who is the most important person in the kingdom of heaven?

Jesus called a little child over to him. He had the child stand among them. Jesus said, “What I’m about to tell you is true. You need to change and become like little children. If you don’t, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Anyone who becomes as free of pride as this child is the most important in the kingdom of heaven.
